Painting series process and description

In the creation of this series of paintings, I was drawn to the organic nature of objects in the environment. In observing their forms, I was intrigued to discover a modern way to represent what I saw. I studied these organic forms in nature (mainly focusing on the parts and whole of trees) and abstrated the images into pixelated compositions. Each composition consists of squared colors added in layers in order to create a coherent whole (a modern twist on an impressionist technique). Although at first glance it may appear that I utilized a grid-like process (much like Chuck Close), my process is much the opposite. I have an organized way of adding paint to my canvas, however I worked from organic shapes which consisted of a base wash, and then added pixelated geometric shapes to create a modernistic representation of an organic object in nature. The completion of each canvas moved me in the direction of the next, and so on. Hence, this painting series takes on a life and story of its own.
